Haymaker is considered great because it takes advantage of basic Pokemon with high HP and low cost attacks to dish out attacks from turn one. If it's not in the included list, add Magikarp and Gyarados as Gyarados is the overall best water type in the game (being a stage 1 Pokemon with hard, balanced attacks and high HP).īack in the early days of the Pokemon TCG, those decks were highly desireable because they were incredibly overpowered, to the point that they were banned from tournaments. That being said, I used this deck against my friends all the time and it has a low fail rate. It's only flaw is that it suffers from a long evolution line and has Pokemon sharing a weakness to electric types (sans Blastoise, he's weak to grass types). Rain Dance (specifically Fossilized Rain Dance) is great for landing heavy hits and having free reign over energy placement with Blastoise. I recommend adding Diglett and Dugtrio as Dugtrio hits strong and boasts resistance to electric types. Professor Oak, Bill, and Energy Search are great for gathering as much energy as possible to apply to your Pokemon. Mewtwo is a good subsitute for that deck as well. Haymaker consists of quick, heavy hitting basic Pokemon (Hitmonchan, Electabuzz, and Scyther), those which have high HP and can attack with one Energy card.
With that out of the way, the two best decks to have on hand are real life decks that were actually banned from tournaments- Haymaker) and Rain Dance).
I collected Gen I cards in real life, earned four complete sets, and I still have all 3,000 some odd cards I have.
